Pride Interfaith Worship Service

Pride service in Meeting HouseOn Sunday, June 15, Beneficent hosted the seventh annual Pride Interfaith Worship service, a joyous religious celebration of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered community.

Those gathering for the service were greeted by the sounds of the drumming circle on the church's front steps, the rhythms wafting up and down Weybosset.

Abbott ParkSpecial music for the event included the stirring "Freedom Trilogy" performed for organ/djembe/voice, as well as two pieces by members of the Providence Gay Men's Chorus: "Make Them Hear You" and "Marry Us".

The Reverend Richard H. Taylor, Pastor Emeritus of Beneficent, delivered the inpirational and rousing sermon, "Miriam in the Bulrushes."

The crowd was then treated to a fabulous Garden Party in Abbott Park, hosted by members of Grace Church Episcopal. The party featured a bountiful spread of cheeses, fruits and two amazing cakes: one in the shape of a wide-brimmed straw hat and the other, a handbag in shades of hot pink and key lime.

A wonderful time was had by all!
