Dear Beneficent Family,

“The death of George Floyd was a match that lit a bonfire,” American author Rebecca Solnit wrote last week. That bonfire is fueled by widespread public outrage, protest and renewed sense of urgency for racial justice. Beneficent is blessed to be a diverse, multi-racial congregation. That means our members have different levels of racial awareness and different needs for support and encouragement. Recognizing that the struggle for racial justice is going to require time and endurance, we are pausing to assess our congregation’s needs before we launch extensive programming.

We ask you to complete a questionnaire below. It will take you a few minutes and your responses will be anonymous. The questions are based on a UCC resource and we are arranging for an outside consultant to analyze the data and make specific recommendations for our church. This groundwork will help us focus on the racial justice initiatives that Beneficent needs most, and make good choices about our education, outreach, worship, fellowship and spiritual care programming in the coming months and years.

Thank you for completing the questionnaire and helping Beneficent to rise to this historic occasion, as we have risen many times before.

Grace, mercy and peace,
Pastor Elizabeth
