What time is Sunday worship?
Worship is held every Sunday at 10am.  Click here to find out what to expect.

Where is your church, and how do I get there?
Click here for maps and directions.

How should I dress for church?
Dress code is very flexible at Beneficent.  Most people dress "business casual" for Sunday mornings, but you are welcome to dress up or dress down as you feel comfortable.  You are welcome regardless.

Do you have child care or Sunday School?
Our child care and Sunday School are currently on hiatus until we hire our new Director of Christian Education. Please contact the Church Office if your family is interested in Sunday School so we can follow up with you.

Do you do weddings?  Do you do same-gender weddings?
We do perform weddings, including same-gender weddings, though generally only for church members or regular attendees because of the high volume of requests.  The basic wedding fee for non-members is $2,500, and this includes music and an officiant.  We do not host weddings at the church which are not officiated by the pastors or ministers directly affiliated with our congregation.  If you are a member of the church in good standing, discounts are available.  If you are interested in getting married at Beneficent, the first step is to come and meet the pastors at Sunday worship!

Can I rent space in the church for an event?
Space at the church can be rented by an individual, business or non-profit for private or public events.  Fees vary with the space and time requested, as well as with the requirements of the group or activity.  A certificate of insurance is also required for liability purposes.  It is recommended that you schedule at least 3 months in advance of your event.  If you are interested in renting space at Beneficent, contact the church office.

What denomination are you?
Beneficent Church is a United Church of Christ community, from the Congregational tradition.  Learn more about the UCC here.

Do you offer financial assistance or vouchers for food, rent, utilities, etc.?
Our congregation contributes financially to several local programs which offer this type of assistance, but we do not give out money or vouchers directly to community members.  If you need financial assistance, please speak to an usher at Sunday worship, and they can help connect you to appropriate resources or organizations in the community.  A listing of emergency assistance and social service agencies in Rhode Island can be found here.

Are you an LGBTQ friendly church?
Yes.
We are an Open and Affirming congregation, which means that all people, regardless of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity or language are welcome to attend, to join and to become leaders within our congregation.

Where can I get more information about your scholarship program?
Beneficent has a scholarship program for active members in good standing.  If you are not a church member, unfortunately you are not eligible to apply for the scholarship program.  The scholarship program is administered by a committee of private volunteers, so unless you are an existing church member we cannot give contact information for the committee members to you directly.  However, if you have questions about the scholarship program, you can email them to the church office and we will be happy to forward them to the scholarship committee on your behalf.
