Through a joint program of the RI Conference Ministries of Health and Youth Ministries, the RICUCC is continuing to explore ways to reduce the stigma of mental illness within our congregations, especially among youth.

On Saturday, March 26th, from 1pm to 4pm, Beneficent will host a youth education program entitled “Reducing the Stigma of Mental Illness.” Speakers from NAMI-RI will share information related to youth and mental illness; some data is reflected in this downloadable document.

FACT: Depression is the most significant risk factor for teen suicide.  In Rhode Island during 2015, 10.5% of high school students and 6.2% of middle school students actually attempted suicide one or more times. More females than males attempted suicide, however more males were successful. To download the full report, click here; the report begins on page 53.
